Day 1 Travel

Left 0915 which was 15 minutes behind schedule.  Spent the entire day traveling.  Found out my car’s AC needs recharged as it refuses to cool my car.  The temp was about 100 while traveling the planes of Kansas so I just blasted the bents and only sweated a little.  On the positive side, I’m getting better gas mileage without running my compressor.  On the planes I saw smoke ahead and realized the Indians were attacking a group of vehicles.  Some truckers had circled their semis with the smaller behicles in the center.  The Indians were riding circles and making attempts to penetrate the semi circle.  They were riding broncos, mustangs, and a few even impalas.  When I got to the scene I wanted to help but had no weapon so they said I could help treat the wounded.  My first patient had an arrow through his right thigh.  I thought back to medical school on how to remove arrows but realized I had never been taught this so I gave the guy 2 aspirin and told him to o to bed early.  My next patient had a tomahawk in his left shoulder blade.  He was unconscious but had stable vital signs.  I again had no idea how to treat this but the tomahawk looked cool so I pulled it out and cleaned it with some water form the guys canteen.  He woke up while I was cleaning it and started screaming in pain so loud it hurt my ears and was giving me a headache so I decided to take 2 aspirin myself and go to bed early.  When I woke up I realized none of this had actually happened.

Here is the whole group ready to go.  A handsome bunch I must admit

The black beauty that will be transporting me.

You can see she has some age.  Should be to ~208500 by the time I’m back

Really the day was uneventful until Kansas City where the one exit I needed was closed and they only gave me 2 mi of warning and there was no marked deour but after taking a reading of the sun and checking the mossy side of the trees I was able to find my way.  I took US 54 W most of the day.  It was 2 lane.  I stopped at a rest area around 2030 and took a 2 hour nap and then continued on.  I figured it would be best ot travel at night due to less traffic on a 2 lane and it would be cooler since the AC was not fully functioning.  I was a bit worried that I was going to miss the scenery of OK and TX but the next morning I realized I hadn’t missed much but flat shrub filled land.  TX had lots of rabbits on the road at night but I failed to hit even one.  Also TX 2 lane roads have a speed limit of 80 which causes the miles to bly by but is a bit scary because I’m not used to going that fast with a semi coming at me in the next lane.  I finally stopped at another rest area at 0315 Tue morning still CDT.
